At 4'11, I thought it was impossible for me to wear over-the-knee boots. That was one style that was just meant for those tall girls. Shorties like me just had to look on and swoon over the sleek and chic look of OTK boots with jeans or skirts in the fall and winter season. But y'all, I was SO wrong. As with most things, it's all about finding the pair of boots that work for YOU. So today, I'm sharing all my newfound tips on how to style over-the-knee boots when you're petite. Because yes, we can ALL wear this trend!
What I hope this post on how to style over-the-knee boots when you're petite does is give a little inspiration to my fellow petite ladies out there to never think you can't wear a trend. The rules of what not to wear when you are short are meant to be broken! Because I put myself in that mindset when it came to OTK boots for way too long. And for no reason. I freaking love them now and want another pair in brown/tan too. Basically, it's all I want to wear now that the weather has cooled down…whoops.
How To Style Over The Knee Boots When You're Petite
While it most certainly may seem pretty simple on how to wear and style over-the-knee boots, there are a few rules I've recently learned I like to follow. But please, these are just general guidelines. By all means, do what you like! I have found this look here is what I prefer most when styling OTK boots but in no way is this the fashion law. You can read the guidelines but really, it's all about your own personal taste and comfort.

One quick search online and you will just about every retailer offers a variety of OTK boot options. And while I wish I could tell you there is a magical equation for finding the pair that fits you, it really is about trial and error. I already love Marc Fisher boots and they fit me well, so I went with them when picking an over-the-knee style. The style I'm wearing is called the Darwin OTK Boot by Marc Fisher LTD. How To Make Over The Knee Boots Work On Short Legs
The standard rule when you're petite is that the proportions of your outfit should really lend themselves to making you appear taller. So by pairing my fitted over-the-knee boots with skinny, dark wash jeans, my legs appear longer than they really are. It's about creating the illusion of height without wearing sky-high heels, you feel me?
If you're on the taller petite side (I'm only 4'11, so I'm referring to petite women that are closer to 5'4) you can probably get away with OTK boots and a mini skirt or dress where you can show off that little bit of thigh skin…you know what I'm talking about! I tried a super short dress but it basically looked like I left the house with no pants on. I instead went with a flowing dress that hit above the knee and the OTK boots that hit in the same spot. It took a lot of trial and error to find a dress I liked with these boots but once I found them, now I'm hooked!
The Best Tops To Wear With Over The Knee Boots
So given that the boots are fitted and so is the denim, I wanted my top to have a little volume so the proportions felt even. Given that the colder weather has officially arrived in Atlanta and sweater weather is the best, I broke out one of my favorite sweaters – an oversized turtleneck. I did a little front tuck so that you saw more of the jeans/my waistline which, once again, makes my legs appear longer with the long line it creates. The Best Dresses To Wear With Over The Knee Boots
In my other look, you'll see that I styled my OTK boots with a floral dress. I love the look of over-the-knee boots with dresses and skirts. You can style them with or without tights, or by showing a little bit of your thigh or not. Since I'm so short, finding a dress that short so you could see some of my thigh/skin would be way too short. So opt for a dress that hits above the knee, but it's totally OK if the dress hemline falls over the top of the boot. Consider it extra warmth for those chilly fall or winter days
